Genshin Impact is a game that changed free-to-play games forever, its scope rivaling that of AAA premium releases. Following its release in late 2020, the game is still going strong with new content released regularly, but new characters and regions may not be the only thing on the horizon, as a Nintendo Switch 2 version could be in the works, according to datamined information.
As reported by UncleDaWei on the Genshin Impact Leaks subreddit, as of version 6.5.50, a Nintendo Switch account Login Manager has been added to the game internally. This suggests that there's some work being done behind-the-scenes in preparation for this new version of the game.
As some may remember, Genshin Impact was teased for Nintendo Switch shortly after its debut on PC, PlayStation 4, and mobile, but this port never materialized due to unsurprising technical limitations, such as the system's low RAM, which also made the developer drop PlayStation 4 support. As such, this new addition is likely meant for a Nintendo Switch 2 release, as the current-generation Nintendo system has more than enough horsepower to run many of the most demanding AAA multiplatform games, let alone a game meant to be played on mobile devices as well.
Considering this information comes via datamining, with no official announcement, we have to take the possibility of Genshin Impact coming to Nintendo Switch 2 with a grain of salt, no matter how likely it may sound. With the non-E3 season coming up, and a potential Nintendo Direct, however, we may not have to wait too long to learn if one of the most popular free-to-play games is coming to the system, over 5 years after it was meant to launch on a Nintendo console.
Besides continuing to support Genshin Impact, Zenless Zone Zero, and other titles, miHoYo is also working on an open-world game powered by Unreal Engine 5 called Varsapura. A release date for this game has not been confirmed.
