Shortly after the debut of its Nacon Connect 2026 showcase where French publisher Nacon tried to put up a strong front amidst a major time of upheaval in its history, a new report points to more upheaval and, unfortunately, another studio closure. According to French outlet Origami, Nacon is preparing to shut down Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss and Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong developer Big Bad Wolf as part of its attempt to survive its insolvency filing and that of Big Bad Wolf's parent company Cyanide, which itself is a subsidiary of Nacon.
Of course, this is an unconfirmed report at the time of this writing, but it's coming from a source that has previously accurately reported information about Nacon during this period of insolvency. Including being the ones to initially report that Greedfall developer Spiders would shut down before it was officially announced a day later.
The move to shutter Big Bad Wolf also comes along with reports of layoffs at Kylotonn, which, along with Cyanide and the now-shuttered Spiders, is also one of the studios that filed for insolvency after Nacon did. It's unclear if Kylotonn will eventually be shuttered or if its reported layoffs are all that will happen to the studio for now.
Big Bad Wolf released Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss just last month, a first-person puzzler that leaned on Lovecraftian horror elements to deliver a very solid experience. As I wrote in my review, "Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is an incredibly fun adventure puzzle game with some very well put-together mechanics that make investigating and solving puzzles almost as interesting as its Lovecraftian roots, which is why it's a shame that it fumbles properly connecting those roots to its gameplay, leaving much of the horror and tension built up in its early chapters at the bottom of the ocean."
It's extremely unfortunate to hear that the studio will potentially be shuttered as part of this period of upheaval, and it'll be interesting to see what emerges from this if Nacon is able to survive insolvency. Claims from the STJV union have already pointed to Nacon management as the cause of the company's biggest problems, insolvency aside.
We'll update this article if/when more information becomes available.
