ASUS, MSI, and Lenovo prepare their RTX 5050-based gaming laptops as spotted in multiple listings like Newegg, ASUS Store, and Kiebel.
GeForce RTX 5050 Specifications Leaked: 2560 Cores, 80 Tensor Cores, and 20 Ray Tracing Units but Conflicting VRAM Types
There have been conflicting reports about the GeForce RTX 5050 VRAM type. Some earlier reports suggested that the desktop variant would boast GDDR6, but one of the recent ones suggested GDDR7. As far as the laptop variant is considered, most reports suggested GDDR7, but one of the latest leaks shows both GDDR6 and GDDR7.
We don't know whether this is due to incorrect information or whether the GPU will be available in two different variants. Sometimes it seems as if NVIDIA hasn't made its final decision, but when we see laptop makers already listing their RTX 5050-based gaming laptops on retailers, things must have been finalized.
Many laptop manufacturers have started equipping their budget gaming laptop models with the RTX 5050, including MSI, Lenovo, and ASUS. ASUS Vietnam has prepared the official page for tis AI ROG Strix G16, model: G615JHR-S5069W with the GeForce RTX 5050 laptop GPU. The specs page shows 8 GB VRAM but doesn't reveal the memory type. The configuration of the laptop boasts an Intel Core i7 14650HX, 32 GB DDR5 RAM, and 1 TB NVMe SSD. It's listed at 999,999,999 Vietnamese Dong, which appears to be a placeholder.
MSI, too, has prepared its Helix 13 laptop, featuring a 16-inch display and a configuration comprising the Core i9 13900HX, 16 GB DDR5 RAM, 1 TB SSD, and GeForce RTX 5050. The laptop is currenetly listed on Kiebel, a German retailer, for 1,429 Euros, which translates to US$1632 with VAT and US$1360 without VAT. Surprisingly, the websites allow you to add the laptop to the cart and claim to deliver the laptop in 3–7 days. We haven't heard from NVIDIA about the embargo on the RTX 5050, but it looks like Kiebel isn't alone in this.
Newegg has also listed a Lenovo Legion 5i gaming laptop with GeForce RTX 5050 for $2,228 and allows adding the laptop to the cart. So, apparently, the embargo on the sale doesn't seem to be there at the moment. Nonetheless, here is an interesting part: the Newegg listing reveals that the RTX 5050 carries 8 GB "GDDR7" memory while the MSI Helix 13 on Kiebel lists the RTX 5050 with 8 GB "GDDR6" VRAM.
Keibel also reveals additional specs of the GPU, like CUDA Core count, which appears to confirm the previous reports of the RTX 5050 carrying 2560 Cores. The GPU reportedly features GB207 die, 80 Tensor Cores, 20 Ray Tracing Cores, and runs in a 2235 to 2520 MHz clock range.
