One of the most popular RTX 30 series GPUs will arrive in nearly two months as NVIDIA's board partners prepare for the launch.
MSI, Galax, ASUS, and Colorful to Receive RTX 3060 Chips Soon, As NVIDIA Prepares to Launch the Card in July to Tackle the Shortage
As reported by Board Channels, NVIDIA is about to launch the Ampere-based RTX 3060 12 GB GPU in July, and it's not to clear the existing inventory, but to fulfill the current market demand due to GPU shortages. We know that the RAMpocalypse has caused a surge in GPU prices as well, and in most regions, we can't find the RTX 50 series GPUs at their MSRP. Even the slowest card, like the RTX 5050, has surged by $50 in some regions, while higher-end GPUs are seen selling for several hundred dollars higher.
We previously reported that NVIDIA is also preparing an RTX 5050 GPU with 9 GB VRAM, but as per some reports, its launch is delayed. That's why the GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB appears to be serving as a substitute for the RTX 5050 9 GB card, and will be launched in nearly two months. The previous report indicated that the RTX 3060 is coming in June, but it appears that in June NVIDIA will begin mass-producing the chips and will begin supplying them to its board partners later.
As per the latest report, some major AIBs will receive the chips, including MSI, ASUS, Colorful, and GALAX, but overall supply is said to be limited. Therefore, despite the claims that the RTX 3060 is released for meeting the current demand, it doesn't appear that the GPU is being produced in sufficient quantities, but it should still balance the demand and supply difference. Having enjoyed the most popular budget GPU in the RTX 30 series, the RTX 3060 12 GB holds up well in modern games, but is noticeably weaker than its RTX 50 counterpart.
Its 12 GB VRAM capacity is the only advantage it brings over the RTX 5060, and should be a decent choice for 1080p gaming. However, pricing will decide its appeal as the report suggests that the GPU's price will remain high. It's not clear whether its price will stay below that of the RTX 5060, which currently sells at around $350, but any price tag above $300 will make it kinda unattractive.
