MSI Rolls Out AGESA 1.1.7.0 Patch A For AM5 Motherboards, Supports AMD Ryzen 9000 CPUs

ASUS Confirms Ryzen 9000 "Zen 5 Granite Ridge" CPU Support For AM5 Motherboards With AMD AGESA 1.1.7.0 BIOS 1

MSI has silently rolled out support for AMD's next-gen Ryzen 9000 Desktop CPUs for its AM5 motherboards with the AGESA 1.1.7.0 BIOS.

AMD Ryzen 9000 "Granite Ridge" CPUs Are Heading To AM5 Soon & Motherboard Makers Such As MSI Are Cooking Up Support With New AGESA BIOS Updates

Previously, we have seen ASUS roll out the AGESA 1.1.7.0 BIOS update for its ROG STRIX and STRIX series AM5 motherboards. While the motherboard vendor didn't list anything within the changelog, it was confirmed through the SMU that the BIOS was indeed designed to offer early enablement for the upcoming Zen 5-based AMD Ryzen 9000 "Granite Ridge" family. Now, MSI has rolled out its new BIOS update which further confirms that it is ready for next-gen CPUs.

The MSI AM5 motherboard BIOS is based on the slightly updated AGESA 1.1.7.0 Patch A & it has only been rolled out to specific motherboard models. The description of this BIOS states "AGESA ComboPI 1.1.7.0 Patch A updated for next-gen CPU." Also, if you look at the size of the update, it's almost 1.5 MB larger than the previous AGESA BIOS updates for AM5 platforms.

We have already seen 8-core and 6-core variants appear in leaks. Also, it looks like motherboard vendors already have early test samples of the Zen 5 "Ryzen" CPUs available with them, which are provided by AMD to enable early support for the chips such as BIOS tweaking. It helps AMD and its partners sort out early bugs and issues with the platform, so a refined version of the BIOS can be released to the public in the future as we get closer to launch.

Now if everything goes according to plan, we can get our first official unveiling of the AMD Zen 5 "Granite Ridge" Ryzen CPU family during Computex 2024, which is expected in early June. AMD is hosting the opening keynote of Computex, so that makes it the perfect place to do a grand unveil.

Not a lot about AMD's Zen 5 core architecture is known at the moment, but from what the company has officially stated, it will offer:

PC builders buying an AM5 platform now are assured drop-in-compatibility with the next-gen AMD Ryzen CPUs. The company has committed to a 2025+ plan for its AM5 socket and as we have seen on the AM4 platform, AMD supports its desktop platforms more than Intel with a very strong 7-year+ dedication to its previous platform. The Zen 5 core architecture will also be coming to the next-gen Ryzen laptop family codenamed Strix Point which is also scheduled for a late 2025 CPU release plan.
