Lenovo-owned Motorola is reportedly gearing up to bring a new affordable Moto C lineup. These upcoming phones could be priced lower than the recently launched Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus smartphones.
The report says that there will be two models of the new upcoming affordable Moto phones - Moto C and Moto C Plus. Even the renders of these new phones have been posted online by @evleaks Evan Blass on VentureBeat. He also tips that both the phones will feature 5-inch displays and run Android Nougat out-of-the-box, but the other specs would be very different between the devices. Lenovo may possibly price the phones around $100.
Regarding specs, the Moto C will be launched in two 3G, and 4G models with 854 x 480 pixels display resolution. The 3G variant will come powered by a 1.3GHz 32-bit MediaTek quad-core processor while the 4G model will come powered by a 1.1GHz 64-bit MediaTek quad-core processor. Except for the SoC, both the 4G/3G Moto C models will feature 1GB of RAM, 8GB/16GB storage, 5MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, and 2350mAh battery.
On the other hand, the Moto C Plus will have just the 4G model. It will feature 1280 x 720 pixels display resolution, 1GB/2GB of RAM, 16GB storage, 1.3GHz 64-bit MediaTek quad-core processor, 8MP rear camera, 5MP front-facing camera, and 4000mAh battery.
Is Lenovo targeting developing markets, again?
Of course, these specs are entry-level, which makes sense as Lenovo is expected to be targeting Asian regions like India for the Moto C phones. Both the Moto C and Moto C Plus will be available in Black, White, Gold, and Red color options. In the US, the Moto G5 Plus retails at $229.99, and it offers way better specs and features than these entry-level Moto C series phones.
Notably, even the Moto G5 was not launched in the US as it was targeted towards developing markets like Asia, Europe, and select parts of South America. There are fair chances that Lenovo will keep the Moto C series limited to the developing markets. However, it remains to be seen what the company ultimately decides about the availability at the time of launch.
