Earlier this year, Minisforum unveiled a range of solutions featuring the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX CPU, such as the F1FGM MoTD motherboard and the MS-A2 Mini PC. The latter of the two has now launched and is available for sale.

The Minisforum MS-A2 is essentially a Mini Workstation PC, featuring AMD's top Ryzen CPUs. The initial variant packed the Ryzen 9 7945HX, whereas the latest model comes equipped with the Ryzen 9 9955HX. Both of these are 16-core models with the former packing 16 Zen 4 cores and the latter packing 16 Zen 5 cores. The 9955HX features clock speeds of up to 5.4 GHz and a handsome amount of cache at 64 MB L3. The chip has a TDP that can be configured between 55-75W.

There's also the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D, which is an awesome mobile gaming CPU, but Minisforum has opted for the Non-X3D variant for the MS-A2. Other specs include support for up to 96 GB DDR5-5600 memory in 2 SO-DIMM slots, a U.2 NVMe slot with up to 15 TB storage support, two PCIe 4.0x4 slots, and a single PCIe 3.0x4 slot.

IO includes a 3.5mm audio jack and two USB 3.2 Gen1 (5 Gbps) ports on the front, while Rear IO includes 1x USB 2.0, 2x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C ports, 1 HDMI 2.1 port, dual 2.5GbE Ethernet ports, dual 10GbE Ethernet ports, 1x USB 3.2 Gen2 (10 Gbps) port, 1x USB 3.2 Gen1 (5 Gbps) port, and WIFI 6E + BT5.3 functionality.

One big advantage of the Minisforum MS-A2 Mini Workstation PC is that it supports a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, which runs in x8 mode. This allows users to drop either a dedicated GPU within the chassis or go with an external solution for expanded capabilities. The chassis is also equipped with a massive blower fan that pushes air into the central heatsink assembly and blows it out from the exhaust vents on the top. The unit measures 196x189x48mm and is powered by a 19V/12.63A interface.

Currently, the Minisforum MS-A2 with the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX CPU is priced at $871 for the barebone version, making it $232 US more expensive than the Ryzen 9 7945HX variant. The base configuration with 64 GB memory and 1 TB SSD is priced at $1135, while the 96 GB memory and 2 TB SSD config is priced at $1295. The ETA for shipments is scheduled for 10th August.
