The latest Windows 10 1903 has managed to steer clear of any major issues. However, Mac users have been having problems with the upgrade process. Microsoft has today said that it's blocking some Macs from updating to Windows 10 May 2019 Update due to a compatibility issue. The issue only affects older machine or newer devices but with older versions of Apple Boot Camp or Windows Support Software drivers installed.
"Mac devices prior to 2012 or newer Mac devices with the older Apple Boot Camp or Windows Support Software drivers have a compatibility hold in place and are unable to update to Windows 10, version 1903," Microsoft writes.
"Specifically, devices with MacHALDriver.sys dated September 24, 2011 01:57:09 or older in Windows\system32\drivers are affected."
The users who are affected by this block will get the following notification:
Mac HAL Driver - machaldriver.sys
Your PC has a driver or service that isn't ready for this version of Windows 10. No action is needed. Windows Update will offer this version of Windows 10 automatically once the issue has been resolved.
Microsoft added that as a possible workaround you can try updating your Apple Boot Camp Windows Support Software drivers and that may allow you to update to Windows 10 1903. Head over to Apple menu > App Store > install all available updates. The company has also recommended to try the instructions set out by Apple in this article.
As for the fix, the Windows maker said that it estimates a solution will be available in late July.
Last night, Microsoft broke some major news, releasing the first preview build of the next version of Windows 10. The company said that it will be a non-disruptive upgrade, delivered like a cumulative update and will focus entirely on performance and quality improvements.
