Companies like SK hynix, Micron, and Samsung have showcased their own GDDR7 solutions, but Micron looks to be one of the superior firms in the race. Not only does their memory type come with the industry’s highest bit density, but it has brought in several improvements. Micron claims that its GDDR7 (32Gb/s) is expected to bring in a decent 30% uplift in gaming performance when compared to the firm's very own GDDR6 standard, which is rated at 20 Gb/s.

Considering that this improvement is simply because of the generational improvement in memory technologies, a 30% bump is indeed impressive. Although Micron hasn't shared the platform where they obtained the results, they do look reliable enough.

GDDR7 is expected to achieve greater than 30% improvement in frames per second (FPS) for ray tracing and rasterization workloads.

The high system bandwidth (>1.5 TB/s) offered by GDDR7 is expected to reduce response times by up to 20% for generative AI text to image generation.

Apart from performance improvement, Micron shares that their GDDR7 modules are expected to bring in a 60% uplift in memory bandwidth, along with a 50% improvement in performance efficiency and a 20% reduction in response times. The company previously highlighted that the new GDDR7 memory standard will offer up to 3.1x improvement in ray tracing performance at 4K Ultra and 1.7x improvement in rasterization performance at 4K Ultra versus GDDR6 memory.

For a quick rundown on Micron's GDDR7 memory specifications, it leverages 1β (1-beta) DRAM technology, offering 32 Gb/s high-performance memory in a power-optimized design. With over 1.5 TB/s of system bandwidth, the memory chips are expected to take gaming performance to new heights. Along with the integration of the industry’s first 40 Gb/s PAM3 performance, the firm's GDDR7 technology is expected to witness mass adoption from the industry.

Regarding the general GDDR7 integration by the industry, especially GPU manufacturers, NVIDIA is all set to integrate the process with their next-gen "RTX 50" Blackwell products. Along with that, AMD plans to utilize GDDR7 with RDNA 4 as well, while things at Team Blue's camp are uncertain for now. Intel might stick to GDDR6 with Battlemage "Xe2" for now, leaving GDDR7 for future graphics generation.
