Companies are increasingly working towards improving the user experience and creating customizable features according to user's preferences. Meta is constantly bringing changes to its social media platforms, and now it has announced a very useful feature for Instagram users: an option to choose what content comes up as recommendations. It is an extension of the already available capability of resetting recommendations.
Instagram would be getting a new upgrade that would let users tweak their recommended content
Users would be relieved to know that Meta has announced a new feature that offers great utility in terms of customizing content recommendations. It is built on the existing offering that lets users select recommendations manually. Starting today, users can reset the content they see in Explore, Feed, or Reels and can start afresh.
In addition to selecting the content they want to appear on their content recommendations, users would also be able to unfollow followers they do not want to see the content of and manage the accounts they follow so that the experience of consumption would be more refined and more personalized.
Meta shares that the new helpful feature incorporated into Instagram is being rolled out to selected users for testing purposes but will soon be widely available. After resetting the content, users can tailor their content experience by clicking on the three dots on the post and tapping on Interested. This feature is optional, but those looking for a greater option to personalize their Instagram Feed or Explore section would greatly benefit.

The new feature is meant for teenagers, but it will be available to all users after the testing phase is completed. The existing feature would still be there, letting you hide words, mark content as interested or not interested, and help improve the Instagram experience. Meta additionally offers teens more options to choose topics they want to see more content on in the UK, US, Australia, and Canada, giving wider choices to curate content according to interests.
In addition to the resetting feature, Meta is actively working on restricting content teenagers can view on Instagram so that more age-appropriate experiences are indulged in. It is also trying to address the growing concerns of parents and the tech community. They even have a Transparency Center page that details more about protection efforts for parents and teens and the types of content being hidden or removed for young adults.
