Fighting games have become a niche genre since their glory day in the 90s, but it seems like there's still plenty of demand for them in the West, as revealed by the creator of one of the most popular fighting game series ever, Tekken.

In 4Gamer's annual year-end report, Tekken series creator Katsuhiro Harada confirmed that 95% of the series' sales come from outside Japan, with games selling better in Europe and North America. With Tekken 7 launching next year on PC and consoles in all regions, Harada would like to broaden the game's popularity in all regions, and he feels like the game's Story Mode, which will help players understand the game and its mechanics, and the recently revealed Tournament Mode can definitely make it happen.

Alongside the brand new Tournament Mode, Bandai Namco confirmed earlier this month that returning characters Kuma and Panda will be added to the Tekken 7 playable roster. Unlike the past, the two characters will be separate and even have their own unique Rage Arts

Among the features that have yet to be confirmed for Tekken 7 is cross-platform play, but sadly there's the chance it won't happen, with Katsuhiro Harada himself mentioning that potential security risks and the perceived reputation of PC gamers being cheaters may get in the way.

It’s not a matter of the technology for getting the PS4/XB1/PC players to match up against each other being the issue, but rather first party company policies and potential security risks alongside the community perceived reputation of PC gamers being cheaters that is hindering the decision to allow cross platform play.
Tekken 7 launches early next year in all regions on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. We will let you know more about the game’s release date as soon as possible, so stay tuned for more.
