The month of March is expected to witness a bevy of product launches, with the possibility that the low-cost MacBook will also be unveiled during this week. Perhaps one of the most attractive combinations of this portable Mac will be its unibody aluminum chassis paired with some vibrant colors, with Apple reportedly believing that the machine will flaunt incredible value. In fact, the company is filled with confidence to the point that it believes that customers who don’t own computers will proceed with a purchase.
Windows and Chromebook owners are also expected to gravitate to the low-cost MacBook, boosting Apple’s sales to record heights
In Mark Gurman’s latest ‘Power On’ newsletter, the Bloomberg correspondent mentions that the low-cost MacBook will thrive in popularity. According to a previous estimate, this specific entry-level model will account for 25 percent of all portable Mac revenue attained in 2025. What’s even more interesting is the claim that iPhone users who don’t own computers will have sufficient motivation to pick up the affordable MacBook. In addition to the mouth-watering price, Apple’s software ecosystem is expected to be a contributing factor for the upgrade.
“Internally, the low-end MacBook is being described as an “incredible value,” with Apple believing the launch is going to drive a serious number of switchers from Windows machines and Chromebooks. It could even compel iPhone users without computers to buy their first Mac.”
The exact pricing details are unavailable at this time, but previous reports claimed that the low-cost MacBook would retail for $699 and $799. However, as Apple attempts to combat the DRAM shortage, an updated report mentioned that the portable Mac could cost as much as $749. Currently, the 13-inch M4 MacBook Air with 16GB of unified RAM and a 256GB SSD is going for $899 on Amazon, and keep in mind that there have been occasions where, despite the DRAM shortage, this variant was listed for as low as $749.99.
Assuming the low-cost MacBook launches at $749, buyers who aren’t in a hurry to make a purchase could wait a while before those discounts start coming through, meaning that a bit of patience could reward you with a $50 or even a $100 price cut. It remains to be seen how popular this release will be, so we’ll update our readers on the latest.
