The inception of the microSD Express standard wasn’t a convincing one, as storage cards supporting this standard were in short supply and expensive at the same time. Thankfully, companies started rolling out cheaper solutions, but we’re still in the middle of a transitional phase, which is why these have once again become pricier. Fortunately, Lexar’s Play PRO offers some relief to buyers as its 512GB microSD Express card is now 23 percent off on Amazon, with its new price dropping to $114.99 on the online retailer.
The Play PRO adopts both storage and performance, with Lexar offering a lifetime warranty with each purchase
At this time, the only device that supports the microSD Express standard is the Nintendo Switch 2, but that doesn’t mean future products won’t support this protocol because it pretty much eliminates the performance bottleneck from these miniature storage cards that have existed for years, enabling a ton of consumers to benefit from purchasing one of these.
Delivering 4x the speeds of traditional microSD cards, Lexar’s Play PRO boasts read speeds of up to 900MB/s and write speeds of 600MB/s. Thankfully, microSD Express cards are compatible with older standard slots, but don’t expect to get the same level of performance. Lexar also says that each of its Play PRO cards has a lifetime warranty, with customers having access to the company’s Recovery Tool if their data gets corrupted for whatever reason.
With a 4.7-star rating from nearly 1,200 reviews on Amazon, the Play PRO lineup certainly oozes quality, which is why it has garnered such terrific feedback from users. However, looking at the 1TB version, which is currently listed for $349.99, don’t be surprised if the 512GB variant also witnesses a price hike. In short, don’t expect Amazon’s 23 percent discount to last for long, which is why, if you’re truly interested in picking up one of these, we don’t recommend wasting any valuable time.
