Following a series of cast announcements for the show, the first look at the God of War series in development by Amazon arrived last week with a shot of Kratos and Atreus, played by Ryan Hurst and Callum Vinson, which directly adapts one of the first sequences of the 2018 game starring both.
While this sort of picture is usually not very representative of a show's final quality, this first image caused quite a reaction, not only from fans of the series who believe there's some AI-generated content involved, but also from its creator, David Jaffe, who is known for his strong opinions.
Commenting on the image, Jaffe didn't leave any doubt regarding his opinion on the first look at the upcoming TV series: "I'm sure everybody's trying real hard. It's so dumb. But, okay, let's be incredibly clear, two things can be true at once. This can be a terrible image, and it is. It is so bad in so many ways... and [showrunner] Ron Moore is awesome."
Although he believes the first God of War TV series picture is bad, David Jaffe doesn't think the entire show will be. However, considering the general reaction to it, he also wondered why it got shared in this state in the first place. Replying to actor Ryan Hurst, who suggested that not everything on the internet should be believed, Jaffe said: "Cool and true. But at the same time, this is also true: If you are the marketing team behind something, don't release it on the internet if you don't want people to see and judge it."
Personally, I didn't find the first picture from the God of War TV series too terrible, although it's clear from this early look that a lot more work is needed to bring Kratos and Atreus to life properly in their first Norse adventure.
