If you ever wanted a chance to look at the iPhone 18 Pro before its launch, here it is

Of all the things that could have revealed what iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max would potentially look like, a drop test video wouldn’t have been at the top of our list, but since it’s here, we get a closer look at the flagship. Unfortunately, if you’re expecting a different design, you’ll be disappointed, but the upside is that we might be greeted by a new color.

New gray color likely to be an option for when the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max launch later this year

The origin of the video is currently underdetermined, but we managed to upload the small clip on X for you to check out below. From this angle, Apple doesn’t appear to have adopted the true-tone design, but the Camera Plateau is clearly visible, along with a new gray color that’s expected to arrive later this year.

However, before we jump to conclusions about the paint job, some readers on X have shared their thoughts. Apparently, the gray finish is just the shade of the aluminum before it gets treated to a fresh coat of paint, so it’s possible that this drop test is only observing the structural integrity of the chassis before proceeding to the new phase.

If you’re disappointed to learn that the only defining feature of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max is a new paint job, we’re here to surprise you. Both flagships are expected to ship with Apple’s new A20 Pro, which will be the company’s first 2nm chipset. Unlike the A19 Pro’s PoP (Package-on-Package) technology, the new SoC will adopt WMCM (Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module), along with sporting a larger Neural Engine.

In a nutshell, the silicon will not just boast better on-device AI capabilities, but its sustained performance will also be enhanced significantly, as a much larger vapor chamber will provide better contact with the A20 Pro, resulting in increased heat dissipation. In short, if you haven’t already upgraded to the iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone 17 Pro Max, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will feel like it's from another planet.

As for other changes, both the Pro models will probably sport a smaller Dynamic Island, with the cameras getting slightly bigger to accommodate next-level photography and videography, but that would necessitate a thicker Camera Plateau. Additionally, both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to ship with larger batteries, so there are plenty of reasons why you’d want to upgrade.
