iPhone 17 Pro rumored with brighter sustained display, powerful battery life, and improved thermal performance

Less than a week before the September 9 “Awe-dropping” event, a Weibo-based leaker, Instant Digital, suggests that the iPhone 17 Pro and its bigger Pro Max sibling will be a performance powerhouse. Based on the latest information, the Pro models will come with a new thermal management solution, improvements in battery life, and display brightness. If accurate, these changes could mark one of the most significant upgrades for the iPhone in recent years.

Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro is rumored to offer sustained brightness, longer battery, and advanced thermal performance improvements

The leak indicates that Apple is preparing the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max with a redesigned thermal management system, which will address one of the most common issues faced by users during heavy workloads. We have previously seen how thermal throttling works on the iPhone - it basically caps the performance when the temperature of the device gets higher to protect the internals and prevent crashes. Thermal throttling is quite hindering when gaming and recording video in 4K, and it is slated to be reduced to allow the device to maintain peak performance for longer periods of time without overheating.

Alongside these changes, the iPhone 17 Pro models are also slated to feature sustained outdoor brightness capabilities. Unlike previous iPhone models that could briefly reach peak brightness levels before dimming to manage heat, this year’s models are rumored to maintain higher brightness consistently. This improvement would directly benefit users who frequently record videos or use their phones in direct sunlight, making the display more reliable in challenging conditions.

Other than this, battery life is another area where Apple appears to be making meaningful progress compared to the current models. The company will achieve this feat by combining various factors, which include a bigger battery, improved efficiency from the new thermal design, and the new A19 Pro chip. With all of these factors combined, the iPhone 17 Pro will deliver the best and longest-lasting battery on any iPhone yet. For many users, this could mean that the device will last more than an entire day of demanding use without needing to recharge.

It is worth noting that these enhancements will only be available on the iPhone 17 Pro models, but some of them could make their way to the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air. For instance, the device will get the A19 Pro chip with a 5-core GPU, but it will miss out on the new thermal management system and a bigger battery. This also means that the sustained brightness levels would not be available for the ultra-thin model. As mentioned, the devices are slated to launch in a week, and we will be covering the launch event extensively, so do keep an eye out for more last-minute leaks.
