Apple is slated to launch the iPhone 17 lineup later this year at its September event, and the devices are shaping up to be quite promising based on hardware changes and design. A serial leaker has now shared images of the iPhone 17 Pro cases that show significant variations in terms of design, at least from the back. Both iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to undergo a major redesign, moving away from the current versions, which have looked more or less the same since the launch of the iPhone 11.
iPhone 17 Pro case leaks show a large camera module on the back, corroborating prior reports
Sonny Dickson shared the iPhone 17 Pro cases on X, which shows a large cutout on the back of the devices, possibly for the highly anticipated camera tray. It was previously reported that the iPhone 17 Pro models would be drastically different than the current versions, as Apple would see fit to enlarge the camera module, which will house a triple-lens sensor coupled with a LiDAR scanner, microphone, and the LED Flash.
It can be seen that the cutout on the iPhone 17 Pro cases is quite large, which will house the camera tray, which will replace the square camera module on the current iPhone 16 Pro models. The camera tray will be rectangular and will go from one end to the other. While the iPhone 17 Pro models will feature a larger module, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to look similar to the Google Pixel 9 series with the same pill-shaped camera tray that goes from one end to the other.
Some of the recent iPhone models have featured the same design from the front, as the company has just trimmed down the bezels and introduced the Dynamic Island. It was also rumored that the iPhone 17 Pro models would also get a smaller Dynamic Island, but there have been various conflicting reports regarding it, so we will wait for more details on the subject before drawing a conclusion.
It remains to be seen if the larger camera module on the iPhone 17 Pro models will serve a purpose or if it will solely be for looks and design variations. Possibly, the components could also get more space on the inside, which would allow better thermal management to keep them cool. The new design could also offer better spatial separation of sensors for more accurate depth mapping, but again, the final word rests with Apple.
It was reported recently by Mark Gurman that the camera tray will be the same color as the device itself, while recent renders have presented a black back. We will share more details on the design of the iPhone 17 Pro as soon as further information is available. Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
