Leaked iPhone 17 battery details highlight SIM tray vs eSIM capacities, with Pro Max breaking 5,000 mAh.

Just ahead of Apple’s upcoming September 9 launch event, battery capacity details for the iPhone 17 lineup, including the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, have been leaked by a Chinese regulatory database. We have previously heard details on bigger batteries, but the latest leak suggests that the company will be offering different capacities for iPhone 17 models with and without the SIM card slots.

Chinese regulatory leak reveals iPhone 17 battery upgrades, showing larger capacities in eSIM models compared to SIM tray versions

The news was shared by leaker ShrimpApplePro on X, and the data distinguishes between versions with and without the physical SIM card tray, which Apple may phase out in countries other than the United States. While Apple has not confirmed the battery capacities as of yet, it appears to look quite convincing. Check out what the leak reveals for with and without SIM card trays.

iPhone 17 Air:

  • • With SIM card tray: 3,036 mAh
  • • Without SIM card tray: 3,149 mAh

iPhone 17 Pro:

  • • With SIM card tray: 3,988 mAh
  • • Without SIM card tray: 4,252 mAh

iPhone 17 Pro Max:

  • • With SIM card tray: 4,823 mAh
  • • Without SIM card tray: 5,088 mAh

iPhone 17 is slated to feature a single figure of 3,692 mAh, but it is unclear whether it applies to the model with or without the SIM card tray. These numbers suggest a clear pattern and are in line with the company’s past trends of eliminating the physical SIM card options. It can be observed that the extra battery capacity has been made possible because of the freed-up internal space. Most notably, the iPhone 17 Pro Max surpassed the 5,000 mAh mark, which is now 8 percent bigger than the current iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The iPhone 17 Air features the thinnest battery capacity out of the bunch for both with and without a physical SIM card option. The company would have to implement additional mechanisms to reduce the impact of the smaller cell, and we have previously covered that the device will house the company’s in-house C1 modem chip alongside the A19 Pro chip with a 5-core GPU.

The company is expected to announce all iPhone 17 models tomorrow at its ‘Awe Dropping’ event alongside the new Apple Watch and AirPods. We will be covering the event in extensive detail, so be sure to keep an eye out.
