The iPad Air and the Retina iPad Mini are official folks. And they're everything we've been telling you about so far. Starting the presentation with the success of the iPad, Apple claims that the iPad comes out on top when the tablet sales are compared to PC sales over all. Nevertheless, iPad sales are still starting to go flat, and Apple is looking to change this fact.
As expected, Apple has gone big once again and made the iPad Air even more thin. According to a video Apple displayed at the launch, the device is half a thick as a pencil. So much for theatrics. The iPad Air 2 will be 6.1 mm thick. That makes the device a full 0.8 mm thinner than the iPhone 6 and 18% thinner than the iPad Air. Oh and it's coming in gold too.
The A8X looks pretty interesting so far. The SoC comes with 3 billion transistors and is the second generation in Apple's 64 bit architecture. CPU performance looks to be 12X better than the one on the iPad according to Apple's slides. The main attraction of the A8X seems to be graphics performance however. Apple says that the SoC will offer as much as 180X times the graphics performance of the iPad. And all of this will be coming with a 10 hour battery life.
Wireless connectivity will be receiving a 2.8X boost on the iPad Air 2 with 802.11AC with MIMO. As expected, Touch ID has also made it on board and with it Apple Pay too. The iPad Air 2 will be starting at $499 for the 16 GB Wi Fi variant. The 128 GB Wi Fi variant on the other hand will leave you a $699 lighter. Here's a great looking shot taken from the iPad Air 2 to make things easier for you.
