Intel's hold on the consumer CPU market is getting weaker every day, but what could be the reason for its downfall to <5% revenue last week?
AMD Ships Over 3,500 Units in a Week While Intel Barely Made it to 250; LGA 1851 Platform Flopped Even Harder Last Week on This German Retailer
Looks like Intel will cease to exist in the desktop segment if this trend continues. It's a worrying scenario where only one company has been dominating for a while, but this is getting worse for Intel day by day. We have been continuously posting sales stats from various major retailers such as Amazon and Mindfactory, which reveal a sharp decline in Intel CPU sales. At the same time, AMD easily shines even with its outdated AM4 platform.
Roughly two weeks ago, we reported on the popular German retailer, Mindfactory's stats that revealed AMD's rapid growth in the desktop CPU segment in the country. It wasn't until last week that things became even worse for Team Blue. As per last week's stats, Intel is now down from over 7% revenue share to less than 5%. It's probably the lowest it has gone in years, and if the trend continues, it may drop even more in the coming weeks.
Mindfactory sold nearly 3,655 units of AMD CPUs combined, including the AM4 and AM5-compatible chips. Intel, on the other hand, hardly managed to sell 250 units in an entire week. Out of those 250 units, only 40 units were from the latest Intel Arrow Lake, while the LGA 1700-compatible chips, such as Intel's 12th, 13th, and 14th gen, sold nearly 200 units. Just like previously, we see Ryzen 7 9800X3D dominating the sales, followed by Ryzen 7 7800X3D, and other Ryzen 9000, 7000, and even AM4-compatible Ryzen 5000 series.
The overall market share for AMD remains at 93.6% (95.05% Revenue) with an Average Selling Price of 310 Euros. Intel is now at just a 6.4% (4.95% Revenue) share with an ASP of 236 Euros. Despite lower ASP, Intel isn't able to show any improvements since it lacks strong competitors against chips like Ryzen 9800X3D and 7800X3D. Moreover, we are seeing Intel's 14th-gen CPUs becoming more expensive, which could explain why Intel CPUs are now selling even less than before.
Remember that this isn't something we see on Mindfactory, but on Amazon US as well, where both Ryzen 7 9800X3D and 7800X3D outsold the entire Intel CPU stack. This was at the beginning of November, and AMD has continued to gain more share in the last 30 days. Intel’s Nova Lake lineup remains far from launch, and that delay could leave Intel vulnerable in the mainstream desktop segment that was once its uncontested stronghold.
