We are probably hearing about the Core Ultra 7 254V for the first time, and it's not supposedly as fast as its bigger siblings in multi-threaded operations.

Intel Reportedly Prepares Core Ultra 7 254V as Spotted on PassMark; The CPU is Roughly Equal to 256V and 258V in Single-Core Performance, But Shows a Significant Decline in Multi-Threaded Benchmarks

Intel didn't announce the Core Ultra 7 "254V" as of what we can confirm from all the reports on Lunar Lake. Even on the official website, there is no mention of the 254V processor, but apparently it exists, at least as per a leaked benchmark on PassMark. The official Lunar Lake lineup only has four Core Ultra 7 processors, including 268V, 266V, 258V, and 266V. The next lineup is the Core Ultra 5, starting with 226V and ending at 238V.

The Core Ultra 7 254V might be a nerfed variant of the Core Ultra 7 256V, but we will need Intel's confirmation about the existence of this processor. As per the leaked benchmark on PassMark, the Core Ultra 7 254V shows 8 cores and 8 threads, which is the universal configuration across all Lunar Lake chips. The difference arises in most clock speeds, and the PassMark page didn't reveal the P-core or E-core frequencies.

As far as its performance is concerned, it's on par with the Core Ultra 7 258V and 256V, scoring 4,089 points in the single-core test. This is about 1% higher than the other two, but remember that we only have one test sample to compare against hundreds of tests conducted on the 258V and 256V. So, the final result may deviate a bit. However, the multi-core socre looks quite off and is 12.8% lower than the Ultra 7 256V and around 9.5% lower than 258V. It's even lower than the multi-core score of Core Ultra 5 226V, which is the weakest in the lineup.

Almost all the Lunar Lake chips are able to score over 18,000 points in multi-core test but the Core Ultra 7 254V is the only CPU to go below 18,000 points. It's unlikely that the 254V carries even lower clock speeds than the Core Ultra 5 226V, but this is just our speculation. Coming to its leaked specifications, it has the same amount of L3 cache as the other Core Ultra 7 200V series processors and is likely rated at 17W with a max turbo power of 37W.

The exact reason for the existence of Core Ultra 7 254V is unknown, but it could be another chip, which could come in handy in gaming handhelds or mini PCs.
