Instagram now lets you complete purchases from within the app
Instagram is a lot of things as a platform. The popular photo-sharing app is also host to several big and small brands that double up as marketplaces. Until now, it was not possible to finalise your purchases within the app. Starting today, Instagram will now let you buy products directly from a brand without leaving the app. The feature is dubbed as “Checkout” and is rolling out to select brand stores starting today. You can buy products from the following brands at the moment:
Anastasia Beverly Hills @anastasiabeverlyhills
Huda Beauty @hudabeautyshop
Kylie Cosmetics @kyliecosmetics
MAC Cosmetics @maccosmetics
Michael Kors @michaelkors
Nike @niketraining & @nikewomen
NYX Cosmetics @nyxcosmetics
Oscar de la Renta @oscardelarenta
Ouai Hair @theouai
Outdoor Voices @outdoorvoices
Warby Parker @warbyparker
Checkout works when you tap to view a product from a brand’s shopping post. You’ll be able to use the feature if you see a “Checkout on Instagram” button on the product page. You even get to select from various options such as size or colour upon tapping it. Once you’ve made your choice, the page will redirect you to a payment portal without leaving Instagram where you’ll need to enter your name, email, billing information and shipping address the first time you check out.
Once your first order is complete, your information will be securely saved for the next time you shop. You’ll also receive notifications about shipment and delivery right inside the app, allowing you to track your purchase. Checkout on Instagram is currently in closed beta for businesses and available to people in the US. We can expect more brands and regions to join the list once the company irons out the kinks.
