Crimson Desert: Best Abyss Gear and Abyss Cell Farming Method (Root’s End Ruins Infinite Loop)

A character in 'Crimson Desert' stands on a rocky cliff next to a wooden lookout tower, with text reading 'Best Abyss Gear Farming Method' in green letters.

Character progression in Crimson Desert is deeply rooted in finding gear and items that let you increase Kliff, Damiane, and Oongka stats, and learn new skills. Items like weapons and armor sets can be further enhanced by socketing rare Abyss Gear items, which provide further stat increases and some special passive abilities.

While there's no way to farm the rarest Abyss Gear that lets your character unleash shockwaves or summon crows with every heavy attack, there's a very effective way to farm common Abyss Gear by defeating over and over Stoneback, Mossback, and Floraback Crabs at a precise location.

The Root's End Ruins Abyss Gear Farming Loop

The Root's End Ruins situated in Hernand near Sage's Peak are the perfect location to farm Abyss Gear. Thanks to the combination of a nearby Abyss Nexus (fast travel point) and a high cliff, you can force the game to respawn enemies in only a few seconds, allowing you to return to the farming spot quickly.

  1. Fast travel to the Root's End Abyss Nexus once you have unlocked it. If you have a pet, bring it with you, as they loot dropped items for you. Also save your game in case the loop resets too quickly.
  2. Attack and defeat three to four crabs on the summit.
  3. Keep a close eye on your minimap. A circular icon indicates that a defeated enemy has dropped an Abyss Gear.
  4. After having looted the dropped items and made sure to have left a few crabs alive, either jump off the high cliff to respawn or Fast Travel back to the Abyss Nexus.

Limitations and Caveats

On paper, the farming loop above can last you indefinitely. However, there is one game mechanic that could reset it, as documented by a video shared by MrMoooti: auto-saves.

If you defeat all the crabs on the summit, and the game auto-saves before you can respawn, you will have no choice but to wait for them to respawn after seven in-game days (the same amount of time needed to respawn plenty of other game elements, including the useful Extra Large Bag)

What You Can Farm Here

The Root's End Ruins farming loop is a great way to farm a lot of different items and resources:
