At its WWDC 2016 keynote, Apple released some big features for the macOS Sierra which the developers are now testing. One of these improvements and new features is the Picture in Picture mode. Apple introduced a Picture in Picture mode for iPad last year, something that users of the larger screen real estate appreciated. Now with the feature coming to the Macs, you will be able to detach a video and enjoy watching it while using other apps.

Keep one eye on what you’re watching and the other on what you’re doing.
Now you can float a video window from Safari or iTunes over your desktop or a full-screen app. Play the video in any corner of the desktop and resize it to see more or less of what’s behind it. So you can catch up on your favorite show while you catch up on email. Or watch the big game while playing a game yourself.
Enable macOS Picture in Picture mode for YouTube
Once Picture in Picture mode is enabled, you can dock the video that you want to detach from its player in any of the screen's corners. You can also resize it and use an "always on top" feature to keep watching it across the desktops. Here is how you can enable macOS Picture in Picture mode for YouTube videos.
- Right-click on the YouTube video that you wish to watch in Picture in Picture mode.
- Right-click again to reveal another, hidden menu.
- In this new menu, click on Enter Picture-in-Picture.
Super easy? It definitely is. All you need is the latest macOS Sierra beta on your Macs and a Safari browser. The feature apparently doesn't work on other browsers - at least for now.
