How to Completely Disable Bixby on the Galaxy S9

For all you Samsung Galaxy S8/S9 users out there wondering how to disable Bixby completely, look no further. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to completely get rid of Samsung's virtual assistant on your device. Yes, you can also disable the physical button which you may have triggered inadvertently on multiple occasions. Now if only there were a way to remap it to do literally anything else, but I guess we'll have to wait for that day. The method works for all Galaxy S9, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 devices.

Disable the physical Bixby button

After many complaints users, Samsung finally decided to let users disable the physical Bixby button last year and the process is fairly simple. Hit the key to launch Bixby and tap on the gear icon at the top. Toggle the switch off and you're good to go. No more accidental Bixby keypresses for you.

The method above only disables the physical button and to completely get rid of Bixby, you're going to have to get rid of the voice command trigger as well. To do that, swipe over to the left of your home screen to launch Bixby. Tap on the three-dot menu at the top and open settings to locate the Bixby Voice toggle. Now, the "Hey Bixby" command won't wake up your device.

The above steps are enough for most users never to have to interact with Bixby again, but if you want to get rid of all traces of the virtual assistant altogether, you’ll also want to do away with Bixby Home. It can be accessed by swiping to the left of your home screen. To disable it, tap and hold on an empty section of your home screen and then keep swiping to the right to reach the last panel. Here, you’ll find the toggle to switch Bixby Home off.

Now, your phone is effectively Bixby free. In the near future, when Bixby actually gets any good, you can simply re-enable it by following the same steps and toggling all the switches back on.
