The trademark for Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds has been suspended due to an application conflict.
The suspension notice was spotted by Neogaf user Rösti yesterday. According to the notice, Sony’s The Frozen Wilds mark might conflict with a pending application from Huuuge Global Limited for the ‘Frozen Wild’, which was filed before Sony’s application. Huuuge, a developer of free-to-play mobile casino games, filed its latest application on May 28 of this year while Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC’s Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds application was filed on June 12th.
The suspension notice mentions that if Huuuge’s mark registers, Sony’s mark might be refused “because of a likelihood of confusion with that registered mark(s)”. Sony’s The Frozen Wilds applications will therefore be suspended until Huuuge’s application is either registered or abandoned.
Based on the above, Sony might very well be forced to rename the upcoming Horizon Zero Dawn expansion. On the other hand, Sony might very well pay Huuuge to change their game name.
Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds expansion is slated for a release on November 7. The first and only DLC for Guerrilla Games' action-RPG was announced at Sony's E3 press conference this year.
