Dual-mode monitors are now more common than ever, but this might be the first one to reach such a high refresh rate at FHD.

HKC Reveals The First Dual-Mode 4K Gaming Monitor That Can Switch to FHD@800Hz With a Single Click

Popular display maker in China, HKC, has unveiled its newest high-end gaming display that can reach incredibly high refresh rates we never seen before. While reaching 1000 Hz or even above is now something that some manufacturers advertise, such refresh rates are limited to just 720p resolution. Most gamers prefer 1080p due to better details and don't really need 1000 Hz, as it's almost impossible to benefit from it.

Very recently, HKC also announced a high-end dual-mode gaming monitor that can reach 1080Hz at 720p, but this one can reach a staggering 800 Hz at 1080p resolution. We have seen some FHD monitors that can now surpass the 600 Hz mark at 1080p, but 800 Hz is a big jump. HKC says that the new monitor can quadruple the frequency, switching from 4K@200Hz mode straight to FHD@800Hz with a single click, making it the first such gaming monitor.

Addressing these pain points, HKC, leveraging its self-developed high-performance display driver chip and advanced panel technology, innovatively proposed a "quadruple frequency" technology concept, enabling seamless switching between UHD 200Hz and FHD 800Hz dual-mode operation. Now that HKC has provided some details on the refresh rate and resolution, the majority of the specifications remain unknown. We want to know what panel HKC has used since manufacturers like ASUS and MSI used TN panels to reach 600 Hz refresh rate. That said, it's important to keep in mind that while high refresh rate displays may look appealing on paper, they really don't give you any advantage over panels that are in the 300-500 Hz range, even if you are a very competitive player.

HKC's new monitor surely looks interesting, but the price point will be a key factor as well. We shall know more about the remaining stuff in the coming days. So, stay tuned.
