Here is Your First Official Look at OnePlus Open with a Gapless Hinge with a Traditional Form Factor for the External Screen

Earlier today, we got a confirmation that the OnePlus Open and the OPPO Find N3 are the same device. Now, we finally have access to the first official look of the phone. This is not new by OnePlus' standards, as the company has a habit of unveiling its devices before they even come out.

The OnePlus Open looks like a very promising device for anyone who is looking to get a foldable

Pete Lau had an interview with Lewis Hilstenger, our favorite unboxer, and during the interview, Lau talked about the new OnePlus Open. Of course, we got the chance to have a first proper look at the upcoming foldable.

Pete Lau talked about how OnePlus has over 600 patents related to the hinge alone. This makes sense from a design and engineering perspective because the hinge is the most pivotal part of any foldable device, and if the hinge fails, the entire device will fail along with it. The OnePlus Open will have a gapless hinge design, but it will have 31 fewer components and be 37% smaller than the hinge found on the OPPO Find N2. Fewer components and a smaller footprint would mean that the hinge itself will be lighter and less susceptible to damage, which is always good.

Now, the video does talk about how this is still an early copy of the phone, but we should not be seeing a lot of changes in the final version of the device. Seeing how the OnePlus Open has already gone through a facelift, I doubt we will see anything that is different or added to the final device.

Going through the video, you realize that the new OnePlus Open is much more refined than some might think. If you are looking for something that does not have a taller and narrower screen like the Galaxy Z Fold 5 or some other phones in the market, and you want the cover screen to be like a normal, candy bar-styled phone, then the good news is that the new OnePlus phone will provide you with just that.
