GPD has unveiled the price structure of its DUO OLED "dual-screen" laptop, which comes in both AMD Strix & Hawk Point flavors.

GPD Decides To Show Its Magic To Consumers With The New Dual-Screen "DUO OLED" Laptop, Offering Utility But With a Hefty Price Tag

You can always be surprised by the innovation brought in by handheld manufacturers, especially companies like GPD since they are out on a mission to reshape the way we see the world of compact devices. The firm is known to introduce unique products, particularly handhelds and laptops, and one such example includes the GPD Win Max 2, a handheld that comes with a keyboard of its own. Now, the firm has decided to step into the "dual-screen" laptop segment, offering its newest GPD DUO OLED laptop devices in multiple configurations.

Starting with specifications, the GPD DUO OLED has become the first device by the manufacturer to feature AMD's Ryzen AI 300 APU, notably the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, which is one of the top-end offerings in the series. However, consumers can also buy the device with AMD's Hawk Point APU, the Ryzen 7 8840U onboard, given that they want to not overspend on such a device. Apart from this, the GPD DUO offers up to 64 GB LPDDR5 memory, along with up to 2TB of storage as well, hence the laptop is equipped with top-tier specifications when considered for a compact device.

The most intriguing factor about the GPD DUO is its "dual-screen" design, which means a single laptop unit is equipped with two "adjustable screens", allowing consumers to have a multi-screen setup on their hands. This concept isn't entirely new, since ACEMAGIC has presented a solution called the "ACEMAGIC X1" laptop, which fortunately, we have reviewed as well, and according to what our editor Hassan noted, the X1 did pack steady performance, but the overall build quality and hinge mechanism didn't work out too well.

In terms of the GPD DUO, the laptop features two 13.3-inches AMOLED screens, offering a maximum resolution of 2880 × 1800, along with a 60 Hz display, which certainly isn't too tempting for gaming-oriented consumers. The screens can be adjusted by 360 degrees when the hinge is taken as the pivot point, and unlike the ACEMAGIC X1 which positions the screen on the user's left and right, the GPD DUO focuses on widening the "vertical" perspective, which pros and cons, and will vary on how individual consumer sees the product.

The GPD DUO is equipped with several other features as well, such as support for WiFi-6E and Bluetooth 5.3, along with a USB4 Type-C port, and a dedicated OCuLink port for external connectivity. Overall, the GPD DUO is a solid pick on paper, offering the top-notch features one may expect with a compact device, but the actual hesitation lies in whether the "dual-screen" laptop idea is beneficial for a larger audience, or even its sustainability in the longer run.

Here's how the pricing is structured based on new information disclosed by the company, and it shows that the highest-end configuration will retail for $1971 with a $1860 discounted price, which is quite hefty. The Hawk Point variant is said to feature a retail price of $1425 with $1270 (Indiegogo discount) The manufacturer is also working on a brand new handheld, the "Pocket 4" which is also going to be the market's first device with a Strix Ryzen AI 300 APU.

The manufacturer's pre-order page has higher prices listed with the Hawk Point APU with 16 GB memory and 512 GB SSD for $2100 while the Strix Point variant with 32 GB memory and 1 TB SSD is listed at $2640 US. The GPD DUO is expected to release on the 22nd of November.
