The near-constant dribble of leaks over the past few weeks left little to the imagination when it comes to the Pixel 10a. And now, Google has finally launched its latest Pixel-branded budget smartphone, bringing to the proverbial table a relatively hefty battery, albeit housed within the now-archaic form factor, but embellished with a number of handy AI features.

The Pixel 10a features a "perfectly flat" plastic back, where the camera module sits flush with the rear plane. It also has a Corning Gorilla Glass 7i cover glass, with a 6.3-inch FHD+ AMOLED "Actua" screen that sports a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a resolution of 2,424 x 1,080. The phone is encased within an aluminum frame, which bestows overall dimensions of 153.9mm x 72.9mm x 9mm or (6.06" x 2.87" x 0.35") to the Pixel 10a. Also, the device weighs around 6.52 ounces.

The Pixel 10a has a thick-bezeled design, where the camera bar on the rear houses a dual-camera setup, the volume key is still located below the power key, and antenna lines remain visible from lateral angles.
Also, the speaker and microphone voids at the bottom are placed symmetrically. Moreover, the device has an IP68 dust and water resistance.

Google has launched the Pixel 10a in four colors: Obsidian (dark grey), Fog (beige), Lavender (soft purple), and Berry (red) color options.

Internals

The Google Pixel 10a is powered by the Tensor G4 chip, along with the Titan M2 security coprocessor, and sports 8GB of RAM and 128GB of base storage. Do note that the Pixel 9a also featured the Tensor G4 chip, albeit with a lower clock speed.

The smartphone features a 13MP front camera. The rear camera setup features a 48MP main sensor and a 13MP ultra-wide sensor.

Finally, the Pixel 10a features a 5,100mAh battery that supports wired charging at 45W, and is sufficient for a screen-on time of around 30 hours. It also supports wireless charging at 10W.

Software features

The Google Pixel 10a comes equipped with:

  1. Camera Coach - provides step-by-step guidance for framing, lighting, and composition.
  2. Auto Best Take - automatically selects the best shot from multiple frames.
  3. Gemini Live - Google's bespoke voice assistant.
  4. Nano Banana - Google's image generation AI model.
  5. Circle to Search - an AI-powered tool that allows users to search any on-screen element by simply circling, highlighting, or tapping it.
  6. Seven years of OS updates.
  7. Satellite-based SOS service will now allow you to connect with emergency responders even in areas with no cellular coverage.
  8. Maintains compatibility with Apple's AirDrop file transfer feature.

Price

Google Pixel 10a (base storage variant) sports a retail price of $499 and will hit the store shelves starting March 05. Pre-orders begin immediately.

Google has also launched the Pixel Buds 2a in two new colors to complement the Pixel 10a: Berry and Fog.

Interestingly, as per several anecdotes on Reddit, Google was apparently sending some people discount codes ranging between $50 and $150 for the Pixel 10a even before the device formally launched today.
