At its 'ENTER INFINITY' press event, GIGABYTE unveiled its AI TOP ecosystem of desktop workstations, with three new prebuilts targeting various segments of the market.
'AI TOP' 100 B850 Features Radeon AI PRO R9700 For Up To 405B Parameter LLMs
Presumably using the B850 AI Top Motherboard, this workstation pairs a Ryzen 9 9950X with 128GB of DDR5 memory, and your choice of either an RTX 5090 32G, or a Radeon AI PRO R9700 32G. All of this compute is fed by the UD1600PM PG5 AI TOP PSU, a 1600W 80+ Platinum certified power supply.
GIGABYTE says this workstation supports LLMs with up to 405B parameters, making it a viable option for running fairly intelligent models locally. They also claim to have validated compatibility with "100+ AI Apps", though it's unclear which applications were tested.
Gigabyte also compared the AI TOP 100 (unclear which specific product) to a "Normal System", showcasing 10x the performance in number of epochs, or a 237x performance advantage in Time to Complete. Without further details, we can't say much about this comparison, but the performance of these workstations is pretty much a known quantity at this point. The R9700 AI PRO offers the same 32GB of VRAM as the RTX 5090 at around half the price, but the 5090 is still faster thanks to its massive 512-bit GDDR7 bus providing gobs of memory bandwidth.
AI TOP 100 Z890: Connectivity Is The Name of The Game
Next up is the AI TOP 100 Z890, which is built around the GIGABYTE Z890 AI TOP motherboard. Featuring a Core Ultra 9 285k with 128 GB of DDR5 and a GIGABYTE RTX 5090 Windforce OC 32G (interestingly, no option to spec an Intel Arc Pro B70). It uses the same UD1600PM PG5 AI TOP PSU as the AI TOP 100 B850 workstation.
The standout feature of GIGABYTE's Intel workstation here is the connectivity. With the Z890 AI TOP 100 featuring dual Thunderbolt 5 ports, GIGABYTE says it's possible to connect multiple workstations together over TB5 at 80 Gbps, with up to a 1.6x performance increase in training workloads.
AI TOP 500 TRX50: The Top Of The Totem Pole
The AI TOP 500 TRX50 is a true workstation, built around the TRX50 AI TOP sTR5 motherboard. Powered by a 24c/48t Threadripper PRO 7965WX paired with a whopping 768GB of DDR5, this behemoth can even run LLMs off the CPU, although you don't need to given that it comes with an RTX 5090. Powering it all is once again the 1600W UD1600PM PG5 AI TOP power supply.
One oddity with this system is that it doesn't actually support another GPU in x16 mode, perhaps due to the 3.5 slot 5090 they're using. It seems like a waste for a platform designed with multi-GPU setups in mind, but clearly the emphasis with this system is on the CPU, not the GPU. Regardless, this lineup of 'AI TOP' desktop workstations gives GIGABYTE a unique position in the market, being one of the only AIBs to offer ready made high-end workstations for local AI use.
