GIGABYTE Enables Support For CXMT DDR5 Memory On Its Intel And AMD Motherboards

Not just MSI and ASUS, GIGABYTE has also added support for CXMT DDR5 memory to its motherboards.

GIGABYTE Officially Adds Support for CXMT 16 Gb and 24 Gb DDR5-Based Modules on Its 600 and 800 Series Motherboards

After MSI and ASUS, now GIGABYTE has joined the race to bring support for CXMT DDR5 memory on its Intel and AMD platforms. GIGABYTE remains a popular motherboard manufacturer, which already has plenty of motherboards for both AMD and Intel processors in the 600/700 and 800 series.

The new move isn't surprising at all, considering every other major vendor is now trying to add support for CXMT-made DDR5 memory. CXMT, or ChangXin Memory Technology, is China's DRAM manufacturer, which has recently started getting orders from almost every PC vendor as the shortage worsened due to AI servers gobbling up majority of the DRAM production. GIGABYTE cites the same reason for adding support for CXMT memory on its motherboards.

With the latest AMD BIOS and AGESA 1.3.0.1c firmware, GIGABYTE's AM5 motherboard lineup, including both 600 and 800 series motherboards, will now support CXMT DDR5-based memory. This includes memory modules that utilize both 16 Gb and 24 Gb memory chips. Another big change is the memory speed, which has been unlocked to a good 8200 MT/s on the AM5 platform, which offers optimal performance.

Apart from AMD platforms, GIGABYTE's Intel 700 and 800 series motherboards will also be able to run CXMT-based memory modules through the current BIOS with no "additional" updates. GIGABYTE says the newest BIOS for AM5 motherboards is now available to download from the website, while the Intel 700 and 800 series motherboards will support the memory modules natively through the existing BIOS.

The DDR5 memory market has faced tight supply and rising prices in recent months, and CXSH (CXMT) chip-based memory offers a welcome additional source of supply for consumers. In response, GIGABYTE added support for CXSH (CXMT) chip-based memory to expand compatibility and give consumers more flexibility when sourcing memory for their systems.

It's great to see that vendors are finally transitioning to the fourth major memory maker, instead of just relying on Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix. Hopefully, this will bring some relief in the market, and we may see some stability in the coming months.
