Updates on the Gears of War movie might be coming soon, according to producer Dylan Clark. Speaking with The Digital Fix as part of an interview on The Batman (which he also produced), he said:

I’m glad that you’re interested in it. It’s something it’s been a passion of mine for a very long time. I think very soon there will be an announcement.

The Gears of War movie was announced five and a half years ago during a Gears of War 4 live stream. Rod Fergusson, who was Head of The Coalition at the time (he's now at Blizzard heading up the Diablo franchise), revealed the film would be produced by Scott Stuber (known for his work on Ted & Ted 2, The Kingdom, Battleship, and 47 Ronin) and Dylan Clark (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, War for the Planet of the Apes, Oblivion) on behalf of Universal Studios.

Perhaps the announcement teased by Dylan Clark will have something to do with the casting. Ever since the news of the adaptation came to light, fans have been buzzing about Dave Bautista playing Marcus Fenix. After all, he's a big fan of the IP and he already appeared in Gears 5 as a multiplayer character, too.

Another movie star fans would like to see in the Gears of War movie is Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. Johnson himself recently fueled the rumors even further, saying that he has been involved in a secret game movie that will be unveiled this year.

I can’t tell you which game in particular we’re doing, but there will be an announcement this year. We’re going to bring one of the biggest, most bad-ass games to the screen—one that I’ve played for years. I’m really excited to bring it to fans around the world. Of course we’re going to do right by our gamer friends—but really we’re just going to make a great movie.
