Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim variant might not be as thin

The Galaxy Z Fold 6, launched at the Unpacked Event 2024, created quite the buzz for its visibly thinner display and design upgrades from its predecessor. While the new model underwent some significant changes, Samsung has been working on the 'Slim' variant of the Fold, which is meant to be even thinner. Now, recent reports reveal that the model might not be as slim as you would expect it to be.

Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 6 'Slim' variant might not be as thin as the competition, contrary to the expectations

Earlier reports suggested that the slim version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 would be called Galaxy W25 in China and could be rolled out in October this year. Speculations pointed toward Samsung working on a lighter and thinner Fold 6 variant and targeting an extra-thin foldable at around 7.7mm. In comparison, Z Fold 6 did trim down on thickness and was launched at 12.1mm thick, which was a huge trim down and a new record for foldable on Samsung's end.

According to a new report by The Elec, Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 6 'Slim' might not be as slim as previously claimed. Instead, the company has managed to trim down slightly from the Z Fold 6, bringing it down to 11.5mm, remaining largely unchanged. This five percent shrink in the thickness can be attributed to the S Pen not making it to the version, which roughly adds up to about 0.6mm to the profile.

In comparison, the Honor Magic V3 is only 9.2mm thick and holds the record for the slimmest foldable profile. Although Samsung's Slim variant, at 11.5mm, does not make it to the top to take on the competition, it marks the company's steady progress with foldable technology and attempts to improve the hardware and its aesthetics.

Samsung could not live up to the predictions in past reports about the slimmer variant trimming down tremendously due to concerns regarding the reliability of the foldable being compromised. The company makes its stance clear that the priority is to constantly deliver quality, even if it does not mark itself as holding the slimmest foldable for now.

Since some of the parts of the 'Slim' model would be used in the next year's foldable phones and mass production for some of the parts has already been initiated, the company did not want to risk the device's durability. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim is expected to be rolled out in China and Korea in October this year. Besides this, we have limited details of Samsung's slim foldable, but more information could surface as the launch date approaches, so stay tuned.
