Aside from the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Samsung has also announced the Galaxy Z Fold 5, and the devices are everything that we had expected and more. Samsung is touting this as a proper powerhouse of a multi-tasking device, so if that is what you have been looking for, this is what you should be getting your hands at.
Of course, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chipset, something that we did know ever since the Galaxy S23 series came out. The chipset offers better overall efficiency and is an excellent performer in almost all aspects.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is not a cheap device, but it is a productivity powerhouse
Unfolding the Galaxy Z Fold 5 unveils a 7.6-inch QXGA+ AMOLED Infinity Flex Display with 2176 x 1812 resolution, 21.6:18 aspect ratio, and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate that goes from 1Hz to 120Hz. On the outside, you are getting a 6.2-inch HD+ display with 2316 x 904 resolution and a 23.1:9 aspect ratio. This one also has an adaptive refresh rate but only goes from 48-120Hz. The phone measures 67.1 x 154.9 x 13.4mm when folded and 129.9x 154.9 x 6.1mm when unfolded and weighs at 253 grams.
Coming to the cameras, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 offers a 10-megapixel selfie camera on the front and a 4-megapixel under-display camera. You are also getting a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 50-megapixel primary camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera.
Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be available in three memory configurations. You are getting 12 gigs as base RAM on all three models, but the storage will vary from 256GB and goes all the way up to 1TB. Powering the phone will be a 4,400 mAh battery with 25W fast charging, wireless charging, and Wireless PowerShare. The phone is indeed IPX8 rated, but you are not getting any protection against dust. On the side, you will find a capacitive fingerprint sensor that doubles up as a power button.
The Galaxy Z Fold is going to be available in Icy Blue, Phantom Black, and Cream. Samsung will also sell two Samsung.com exclusive colors that, are Grey and Blue, with black borders. The phones are up for pre-order starting today and will go on sale on 11th August, later this year. The phone can be yours starting at $1,799 for the base variant.
