The Galaxy S24 Ultra has been reported to tout a few design changes, with the most notable being a switch from aluminum to titanium. However, on the camera hardware, Samsung is rumored to keep some of the same sensors as last year’s model, but one tipster notes that despite maintaining a portion of the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s optics, next year’s flagship will still see improvements in the zoom category.

Tipster claims with ‘full confidence' that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will get major camera improvements

It makes little sense to introduce new camera sensors every year, especially given that Samsung might have to maintain the same asking price of the Galaxy S24 Ultra as the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Keeping the same sensors allows the company to save up on R&D, production, and other costs, but it is still surprising to hear that the 2024 flagship will ship with unchanged zoom levels of 3x and 10x. Regardless, Ice Universe states on Twitter that irrespective of the lack of change here, Samsung is expected to improve the zoom capabilities of the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Sadly, the tipster did not go in-depth on what those improvements were, though it will be more at a software level and might be present in the default camera app of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. One area where manufacturers have room to improve is better image stability when using the 3x and 10x optical zoom features. Like the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Ice Universe’s tweet suggests that the successor will ship with two telephoto cameras, both touting varying levels of zoom.

Information regarding the primary camera was not discussed in the tweet, but just like the 3x and 10x units, Samsung may continue using the 200MP present on the Galaxy S23 Ultra and tweak the optics software on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Unfortunately, there is little information for us to comment on further, but we will be back with more updates. Apart from the camera, the rest of the flagship is starting to look promising, at least on paper.
