For the longest time, the industry considered Samsung as the leader in terms of software updates. All of that changed when Google announced that the Pixel 8 series would be getting major software updates for seven years, causing the company to lead the class by a significant amount. Now, Samsung has introduced similar plans for the upcoming Galaxy S24 series, and I am really excited.
Samsung Galaxy S24 series to offer up to seven years of major and minor software updates
Now, it is worth noting that this is still a tip that we have received, and we don't necessarily know for sure whether Galaxy S24 will receive seven years of software updates, but given Samsung's commitment to its smartphones, I will not be surprised. This change will, of course, start with the latest and greatest phones that the company is going to announce in four days, and I am sure that this will not extend to the older devices, but those are still eligible for four years of updates, and that is more than enough.
Now, seven years of software updates on the Galaxy S24 sound just as good as they do on the Pixel 8, but it raises a question as to whether people will spend that much time on the same phone. Seven years is a long, long time, and a lot of technological improvements take place in that long of a time, so it will be interesting to see whether the consumers decide to stick to the phone they purchased in 2024.
The Galaxy S24 series is going official on January 17, later this month, and we will be keeping you posted about all the information that Samsung has for us. If you are wondering if the new phones will deliver something unparalleled, then I can assure you that is going to be the case, and you will not be let down at all. You can expect more leaks from us leading up to the launch, and we will be sure to provide you with all the information that we can get our hands on.
