Galaxy S21 Users are Experiencing the Notorious Green Line Issue After a Software Update as Reports Pile Up

The green line issue has become the bane for a lot of people who are using devices that have OLED panels. Ever since this issue emerged, we have gotten the chance to learn that no phone with an OLED display is safe from it. As it turns out, Samsung users who are still on the Galaxy S21 family of devices are now complaining about this issue after a software update, and as always, there is no reasonable explanation as to what triggered this apparent hardware defect.

Samsung should offer free screen replacements to the affected Galaxy S21 users

Several users on social media are reporting this green line issue popping up randomly. Some people claim that a software update is behind all of this. A Twitter user reported that their Galaxy S21 FE developed the green line issue right after they installed an update, while another Ultra variant user talked about how the line appeared after the latest April patch on their device.

Here is the Galaxy S21 Ultra facing the same issue:

Now, as far as this green line issue is concerned, we have seen this on several devices in the past couple of years. I saw this on an iPhone X, sometimes even on a Galaxy S23 Ultra, devices from OnePlus, and now Galaxy S21 devices. As much as I would like to believe that this is just a software glitch, I do know that is not the case because restarting should fix this issue, but it doesn't.

Now, the reason why these Galaxy S21 devices are suddenly experiencing these green line issues could be simple. For starters, this issue normally comes up because of a faulty display connector or the flex cable, and damage can cause this green line to appear. The issue can be fixed, as you can see in the video below, but it is not something that every technician has access to.

At the time of writing, Samsung has not given any official statement on what's causing the issue and how the company will compensate the users facing this issue. Considering that most Galaxy S21 devices are out of warranty, it falls on Samsung to offer compensation in the form of free screen replacements to users who are facing these issues. We are going to wait and see how the story develops, but so far, it's evident that older Galaxy devices are running into this issue. If you are afraid that a software update could end up causing this, I would highly advise against updating your device.
