Sony Xperia XZ Premium’s Benchmark Scores Show Modest Performance; Device Beaten By Galaxy S8 & S8+

When we talk premium Sony's Xperia XZ Premium, it's as 'premium' as it can get. After all, the smartphone has the word right in its name. But there's a lot more to the device than its title. The XZ Premium ships with a 4K HDR display, courtesy of Sony's strengths in the area. Another company strong suit that makes it on the smartphone is a 19MP rear camera. Combine these with an excellent display, and you get a truly premium smartphone. To top things off, the Xperia XZ Premium is also the first 2017 smartphone launched with the Snapdragon 835. Today, we've got a benchmark for you, so take a look below for more.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium Surfaces In GeekBench - Comes Second To The Galaxy S8 & Galaxy S8+

Sony hasn't seen much luck in the flagship world lately. No devices from the Japanese manufacturer have created hype over the past couple of years. That's what makes the Xperia XZ Premium even more important. Sony's given it all on the smartphone, and the results show. Still, a lot of you are rightly wondering how well does the smartphone stack up in benchmarks. While tests don't provide a very accurate picture, they're still a useful gauge for comparison.

Codenamed as the Sony G8141, the Xperia XZ Premium scores modestly in GeekBench. The device has a single core score of 1943 and a multi core score of 5824. Looking impressive at first, the device doesn't cross the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. The former scores 2008 in single and 6575 in multi core tests. The latter, scores 2006 and 6798 points in single and multi core tests respectively, according to Phonearena.

That's just okay, when contrasted against the hottest flagships of this year. While Sony might have been the first manufacturer with the Snapdragon 835, that doesn't look to guarantee it a strong place in benchmarks. Of course, it's wise to reserve any solid conclusions before retail units of the Xperia XZ Premium become available for testing. Only then we will be able to understand how well does the device serve at the performance end.

As far as when the smartphone will hit shelves, folks over at Europe are lucky. the Xperia XZ Premium will be available in Germany on 1st of June. It's also available for pre-order in the UK. We here in the US will have to wait a bit longer for the smartphone. Till then, rely on camera samples and benchmarks. Thoughts?
