Following repeated teases from director Naoki Hamaguchi, the day has finally arrived. Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 has been officially unveiled during this year's Summer Game Fest showcase as Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the final chapter of the Unknown Journey that began in 2020.

The third and final entry in the remake trilogy was announced with a first trailer that provided a first look at the Meteor threatening the world, the Weapons roaming the fields, Wutai, the Highwind airship, and the first snippets of Cid and Vincent in combat.

Following the first proper reveal of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, director Naoki Hamaguchi and Vincent's voice actor Matthew Mercer took to the stage to introduce a second look at the gameplay, which looks bigger and better than Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's. While the Highwind will allow players to roam the entirety of the world, Cloud and his companions won't need to find a landing spot, as parachutes can be used to drop down into the world at any spot.

The second look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation also featured more footage of Vincent and Cid in combat. The former Turk is capable of turning into the Galian Beast at will, unlocking new combat moves and even Synergy Abilities with the rest of the party. Cid, on the other hand, specializes in flashy aerial combat, with area-of-effect abilities that will let him control the battlefield against crowds.

The most surprising reveal, however, is the Fits system, which is highly reminiscent of the Garbs system in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. This system will not only change the outfit of every character, but add an additional layer to customization which, in conjunction with the Materia system, will allow players to customize the combat style of each party member.

Lastly, the Final Fantasy VII Revelation showcase ended with a quick look at a pre-rendered cutscene showing the Junon Sister Ray cannon firing at Sapphire Weapon. At the end of the cutscene, it was confirmed that the game will launch in Spring 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Looking at the first Final Fantasy VII Revelation showcase, it's clear how many of the features that were promised before the reveal will be delivered in full. With most of the original world having been recreated for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, it was obvious how the experience had to become bigger, and it seems like the Highwind airship is indeed going to redefine the series' scale.

Seeing the small snippets of the final chapter in the trilogy, the combat system improvements, Zack's continued story, and Cid and Vincent finally in action, it is difficult not to get excited for Final Fantasy VII Revelation and its Spring 2027 release. The original's 30th anniversary couldn't have received a better celebration than the conclusion of one of the most ambitious remake projects to date.
