The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series, which includes remastered versions of the first six entries in the RPG series by Square Enix, finally made its way onto PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch this week, complete with additional features that may get added to the PC and smartphones versions sometime in the future.
Speaking with Famitsu, Naofumi Takuma, director of the recently released console versions, revealed that Square Enix is already working on bringing the new features of the PlayStation 4 and Switch versions, such as new, much better-looking font, the boost option which quadruples experience points gain and Gil and the ability to switch between original and rearranged soundtrack.
At the time, however, he couldn't say if all of the new features will be brought over. Takuma sounded mostly dubious about adding the original soundtrack option to the smartphone version due to the wildly different specifications of smartphones and the eventual increase in file size.
While most of the games have been remastered and even remade already, the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series is a worthy purchase for fans of the series who want to have a mostly authentic experience, as the new remasters are based upon the original release, and thus lack additional content that was added in other re-releases. The launch of the series also marked the debut of the original Final Fantasy III in the West, as only the remake originally released on Nintendo DS was officially launched in North America and Europe before the release of the Pixel Remaster series.
