[UPDATE] The South Korean and Australian rating boards have rated Fable, making it even more likely that it will launch this year.
[ORIGINAL STORY] Fable has been confirmed for a 2026 release earlier this year, but with Xbox's packed release schedule for the remainder of the year, and the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in late November, the long silence on a precise release date is making more than a few wonder if the game will slip into 2027. While the chances of this happening are very real, developer Playground Games recently reaffirmed its commitment to the 2026 release window in a new LinkedIn recruitment drive.
"After the incredible launch of Forza Horizon 6 this week, the excitement across the studio is sky-high," the developer wrote in a new post on the social network. "But we’re not done yet. With Fable coming later this year, we’re continuing to recruit across multiple disciplines to bring more exceptional talent into the team."
On a related note, Fable was also rated 18+ in South Korea, suggesting that the final details of the experience have been finalized ahead of its release, though the game's rating doesn't narrow down its release window.
As the information is fresh and coming straight from the developer, there's no reason to believe Fable is slipping into 2027. If the highly anticipated first entry in the series in 16 years is indeed launching before the end of the year, it would mark an amazing year for the developer, who just released, as mentioned in the LinkedIn post, Forza Horizon 6, which is setting out to be one of the most successful racing games of the current generation, reaching 6 million players in a week since its early access launch, proving how even an early leak cannot damage the launch of a high-quality game.
With Playground Games reaffirming its commitment to releasing Fable this year, there would be no better occasion to announce the game's release date at this year's Xbox Games Showcase. The event, which will be followed by a dedicated Gears of War: E-Day showcase, will be held on June 7.
