Playground's Fable reboot has been officially rated in South Korea and Australia, as spotted by Reddit users. Both of them have restricted the game to be only available to adults due to its mature content, and the South Korean board also shared why:
An immersive open-world action RPG depicting the player's adventure to resolve the situation where villagers are turned to stone by an unidentified stranger.
- Use of language that directly expresses sexual acts
- Frequent killing, bloodshed, and bodily mutilation using weapons
- Direct criminal acts based on user choices
- Excessive use of vulgar language and profanity.
Therefore, in accordance with Article 21 of the Act on Promotion of the Game Industry and Article 7, Paragraph 4 of the Classification Regulations, it has been decided to classify it as 'Not suitable for minors'.
This is essentially in line with previous classifications of Fable titles in those countries. What's more important, though, is that the ratings suggest the game may keep its Fall 2026 launch window after all. Indeed, judging from previous Korean rating "leaks", we might be looking at late September or October.
Kojima's Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was rated on February 6, 2025 and launched on June 26; Nintendo's Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was rated on July 25, 2025, and launched on December 4. This would be consistent with the attempt to distance the game as much as possible from Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto VI, whose publisher, Take-Two, has just reconfirmed will be released to the world on November 19. Insider Jeff Grubb suggested last month that Playground (and Microsoft) could delay the game until 2027 if they were unable to launch before GTA VI. However, between the ratings and the fresh recruitment drive that still mentioned a 2026 launch, fans have reason to hope.
The British studio has just released a fantastic game, Forza Horizon 6, which stunned critics (including our Chris Wray, who gave it a perfect score) and is already nearing 5 million units sold, despite being available on Game Pass. If they managed to launch another hit with Fable, their contribution to Xbox's year would be stellar, not to mention the importance of reviving a key IP for Microsoft.
As a reminder, the game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S and X from day one.
