Epic Games is officially suing former contractor AdiraFNInfo, marking a significant escalation in the industry-wide hard stance against leakers. Following Activision's recent shutdown of a Call of Duty leaker, Epic’s legal action confirms that gaming companies have had enough of confidential IP and trade secrets being shared ahead of official announcements.
As confirmed today with a message on X, Epic Games "took legal action against a former contractor who repeatedly leaked confidential partner IP and trade secrets that they received while working with Epic." The publisher absolutely does "not allow this and will continue to take action when Epic team members share confidential info. It harms our partners and makes it harder to bring awesome IP to our games."
While the message above does not confirm the identity of the leaker and former contractor, the attached court filing confirms that it is AdiraFNInfo. The filing also provides evidence with screenshots of social media posts that leaked plenty of collaboration content coming to Fortnite, including the South Park and Solo Leveling content.
It isn't just publishers that have had enough of leakers, but developers as well. Last year, before Leon was confirmed to be in Resident Evil Requiem, the presence of the classic character in the ninth entry was widely rumored, creating expectations that developers sometimes struggle to handle, leaving them frustrated.
Owners of early copies of games who cannot keep their silence are similarly disliked. Devil May Cry and Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya made his opinion known last month in regards to Resident Evil Requiem leakers, saying that anyone who posts leaks and spoilers online "deserves a thousand deaths."
