Traditionally, Hideo Kojima’s games have offered an array of difficulty options, but Metal Gear Solid V dropped the feature. So, will difficulty options be included in Death Stranding? Apparently, they will be! This info comes from Kojima’s long-time personal assistant Ayako Terashima, who has a bit of a history of leaking little tidbits about the man’s plans and games.

Here’s a rough Google translation of Tereshima’s tweet:

Test play ended today. Started on 8/6, took 1 month. I'm a beginner and play in Very Easy mode. This is perfect for Western fans and RPG users who don't play games. Normal or Hard is recommended for action game lovers (BOSS talk). By the way, Mr. Mads has decided the best actor award!

Kojima retweeted his assistant, confirming Death Stranding will have difficulty settings. He also claims Very Easy mode was added so that those who just want to gaze at Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen and the rest of the game’s cat can play through the game. I assume Kojima was being a bit tongue in cheek, but it makes a certain amount of sense.

Again, apologies for the slightly rough Google translation:

Normally [difficulty only goes to ] Easy, but Norman, Mads, etc. have appeared, so we prepared Very Easy so that it can be enjoyed by non-game-experienced Western fans. Mr. Yano who could not clear one side of Pac-Man was able to clear while enjoying with Very Easy.

So far, we haven’t really seen any Death Stranding gameplay that looks particularly challenging, but if the game has Difficulty settings it must have some tough spots. Even though we haven’t seen much of them, we do know the game will have stealth and shooting sections.

Death Stranding finally arrives on PS4 on November 8. What difficulty will you be playing on?
