AM5 Motherboards Are Now Selling More Than AM4 Motherboards In Korean DIY Market With 65% Share 1

DDR4 platforms are weakening in popularity in Germany, while DDR5 platforms are getting more popular than ever.

It appears that AM4 couldn't maintain its dominance for long after seeing the RAMpocalypse era. The platform is gradually dying as AM5 takes over the hardware market. While the latest data doesn't represent a true representation of the platform's popularity, in Germany things are going in a completely different direction after witnessing the dominance of AM4 for months.

As reported by @TechEpiphanyYT, the motherboard sales for May at Mindfactory reveal some interesting changes in the platform popularity. As usual, the AM5 platform remains at the top, but this time has a whopping share of 81%. This is one of the highest since the platform debuted, while DDR4 platforms continue their downward trend. AM4 took the most impact, and it's surprising to see it dipping under 10% share.

The AM4 platform became quite popular after RAMpocalypse made it extremely difficult to build DDR5-based builds. We saw AM4 rise to as much as 40% of total share in Germany, and it retained its dominance for months. With some stability in the DRAM market, things are getting back to normal, but such a sudden drop in AM4's popularity could be a result of multiple factors, such as price, DDR4 prices, CPU availability, etc.

At the moment, the AM4 motherboard sales have been lower than the LGA 1851 motherboards, which have always remained at the bottom. LGA 1851's share is now at 8.8% as of May 2026, and AM4 is currently at just 6.2%, with only 165 motherboard units shipped last month. LGA 1700 is also doing poorly and has sold just 110 units in the whole month at Mindfactory. Overall, the DDR5 platform remains with nearly 91.2% of share, while the DDR4 platform is at just 8.8%.

The best-performing or best-selling motherboards remain with the B850 chipset, with nearly a 50% share overall, followed by the X870E chipset motherboards with an 18.4% share. The popular B650 platform is now in decline and has sold only 250 units, with a share of just 10.7%. AMD is still the dominant force in the motherboard market with nearly 87% share, while Intel remains at around 13%.
