In a surprising yet exciting development, CD PROJEKT RED recently visited Apple Park to give the international press and content creators an early look at the company's new Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition. It appears that the AAA title is coming to the Mac lineup with stunning results, but since the port is not final at this stage, we believe that a collaboration is in the works.
Cyberpunk 2077 was demoed at Apple Park with ultra settings and 120FPS, teasing a native AAA Mac gaming future
The news was shared by Pawel Sasko, the associate game director on Cyberpunk 2077, on X, calling it one of the most memorable days of his life, and it only goes on to show how significant the collaboration might be. If you are not familiar, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is not just a conjoined effort between the base game and the Phantom Liberty expansion, but it also includes major system overhauls and updates that were introduced after the launch. This includes Update 2.1, which refined everything from enemy AI and skill progression to the driving model and open-world interactions. The end result is a far more complete and responsive gameplay experience that fulfills the original vision of the developers.
At this point, the setting between Apple and CD PROJEKT RED has been under the covers, and neither company has confirmed macOS support for the title. However, the fact that the hands-on demo happened at Apple Park is an indication that CD PROJEKT RED is bringing Cyberpunk 2077 to macOS, possibly optimized for Apple's M-series chips.
Today my chooms at Apple Park we’re showing Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition to international press and content creators — running on a MacBook Pro with the M4 Max chip, hitting 120 FPS on Ultra settings. Coming in 2025! 🥰🍎 pic.twitter.com/sNUM5qBby1

The post also mentions that the game was running at ultra settings, giving a smooth 120 frames per second - on a Mac! Comparatively, the performance levels are comparable to high-end gaming PCs with discrete graphics cards. Apple's machine is powered by the M4 Max chips and enhanced through the company’s Metal 3 and MetalFX technologies.
Apple has been aggressively courting AAA developers, and with tools such as MetalFX Upscaling, Game Porting Toolkit, and improved Rosetta 2 compatibility, Cyberpunk 2077 running on the MacBook Pro could serve as a major benchmark for Apple's gaming ambitions. From a technical standpoint, this could mean that Metal 3 integration, along with mesh shading and dynamic resolution scaling, is tailored for Apple's custom GPUs. If this is the case, the game's load times will be non-existent, all thanks to the NVMe-class storage.
Take note that it is too early to draw a conclusion, and the performance of the title is still yet to be analyzed based on real-world tests. Nonetheless, the Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition port on a MacBook Pro is more than a welcome addition. What are your thoughts on the matter? Let us know in the comments.
