Lossless Scaling, the PC app that brings frame generation to games that don't officially support it, has been making some great progress lately, and with the improvements introduced in the latest 3.2 version, the 2x option is now pretty close to NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation, at least in Cyberpunk 2077.

A recent video by Feaj compares every frame generation option offered by the latest version of the application, now available on Steam, with NVIDIA Smooth Motion and NVIDIA DLSS 4 Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation. While the x3 and x4 Lossless Scaling options are, unsurprisingly, inferior to DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation in terms of image quality and input lag, the video highlights how the 2x option is now pretty close to regular DLSS 4 Frame Generation in terms of input delay, with only some minor artifacting setting the two apart. Compared to NVIDIA Smooth Motion, however, Lossless Scaling seems to be the superior option, as the slightly better input lag offered by NVIDIA's tech is offset by its low image quality, compared to Lossless Scaling. As such, the app continues to be an excellent choice for those using NVIDIA GPUs that don't support Frame Generation and older games that will never get official Frame Generation support.

Cyberpunk 2077 was among the first games to receive support for NVIDIA DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation. Exclusively available on the RTX 50 series GPUs, the next evolution of the technology introduced initially on the RTX 40 series GPUs can deliver up to 8x performance in supported titles, whose number continues to increase weekly. More information on the technology can be found here.
