Besides providing new looks at PlayStation Studios titles, the February 12 State of Play presentation showcased some of the biggest third-party games launching this year. Among them is Control Resonant, the second entry in Remedy Entertainment's series, and the studio's most ambitious game to date. An ambition that was made evident by the first gameplay showcase.

The gameplay reveal, which can be watched below, shows how Dylan Faden, brother of Control's protagonist Jesse, takes on a wide range of paranatural threats using the environment and his shapeshifting weapon called Aberrant.

Though only around 3 minutes long, the gameplay trailer does an excellent job of showcasing an impressive variety of environments, enemies, and combat, instantly evoking the intensity of character-action games by which the game's experience targeting 60 FPS on all systems seems to be heavily inspired.

With such an intense showcase, it's likely that the community sentiment for Control Resonant will become even more positive. "Our goal is to make the game a 'must-have day-one purchase' for the fans of Control and the action role-playing genre. The announcement at The Game Awards in December was a great kickstart to the ambitious global marketing campaign we have planned for Control Resonant," said Remedy's current interim CEO, Markus Mäki, earlier this week. Hopefully, it won't be much longer before gamers experience this ambitious project, which is starting to look like a potential GOTY contender.
