During Summer Game Fest 2026, CI Games confirmed what we had already assumed when the publisher announced it had purchased back the publishing rights for Lords of the Fallen 2: it's no longer an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC. Moreover, the studio also revealed that a Nintendo Switch 2 version is in the works and will be released later this year alongside the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S and X versions.

Today, in the tenth episode of the Lifting the Veil videocast series, the developers provided a deep dive into the latest news and other aspects of the upcoming Soulslike game. The studio is aiming for a bigger, more reactive, and more player-driven experience than the original. Furthermore, they confirmed full shared-progression co-op at launch, a new katana weapon class, and a Japanese-inspired biome called Yisugen, while also showing how the team is responding to community feedback on the Umbral realm.

Full shared progression co-op functionality matters because it was added retroactively in Lords of the Fallen (2023), while this time it has been built into the game from the start. The developers said the new approach has allowed them to weave co-op into loot, quests, and even traversal more organically.

The world of Lords of the Fallen 2 is being structured around a hub-and-spoke model, with fully interconnected biomes rather than isolated portal-based zones. CI Games said it wants transitions to feel natural, with environmental clues and gradual shifts that make the player feel the journey from one region to the next.

The new episode also introduced the aforementioned Yisugen, a Japanese-inspired area ravaged by war, disease, and corruption. The developers described it as one of the game's standout biomes and said it is part of a broader set of locations that are meant to feel visually distinct without breaking the game’s dark fantasy identity. The team also highlighted an early coastal region of islands and storm-lashed castles as one of its personal favorites.

A major focus of this episode was the Umbral realm, which the team said was criticized in an earlier update for feeling too static. In response, CI Games said it has been pushing the realm toward a more dynamic, reactive state, while still preserving its identity as a dead, decaying world. The Umbral realm is now being built to react more visibly to player actions and enemy presence, and the changes are meant to give each run more variation. They also referenced an internal “Project Living World” effort to make the overall environment feel more alive and responsive. The developers stressed that they are trying to find the right balance between visual life and Umbral's inherently rotting, oppressive tone.

The showcase's biggest gameplay reveal was the katana, which was confirmed as a new weapon class in Lords of the Fallen 2 after community requests. CI Games said the katana was the second-most requested class from players, behind the scythe, and described its feeling as fast, stylish, and savage while still fitting the franchise's heavier combat identity. The team also emphasized that weapon choice will meaningfully change how the game feels. Different classes, stances, and dual-wield or two-handed setups will all play differently, with magic and ranged options layered in as well.

This episode of Lifting the Veil also gave a deeper look at The Scion, the many-limbed angelic boss first shown in the announcement trailer. The team said she was extremely difficult to animate because her wings are really a mass of thousands of hands, and that she required specialized animation systems to make the fight both readable and terrifying. Story-wise, the developers introduced three NPCs — Thaddius, Ameis, and the new character Noka — who help anchor the player's journey and represent what remains of Axiom. These characters are more grounded and human than any in the previous installment, with more direct dialogue and clearer motivations. It also confirmed that player choices will lead to multiple endings and that these outcomes matter more than a simple final-screen summary.

Lords of the Fallen 2 doesn't have a release date yet, but it's expected to launch in Fall 2026. As such, it may be one of the very few titles to go head-to-head against Rockstar's GTA 6.
